One of our members has just handed us a flyer that seems to have been posted in thousands of houses in the Spennymoor and other areas which is a departure from other campaigning leaflets in that it proclaims simply "Vote for Change" (from the existing Labour dominancy)
The main theme of the leaflet is the chronic lack of conflict resolution ability of Durham County Council, whose heavy handed approach led them to dismiss all the Teaching Assistants in County Durham and then offer them their jobs back on much reduced rates.
I have always been led to understand that it is Jobs that become redundant and then the next exercise is to find a fair means of allocating people to the jobs that are being lost. Clearly here jobs are not being made redundant as people are being re recruited into the exact same position so the only conclusion is that the people are being dismissed for misconduct in which case an employer would never re recruit someone dismissed for misconduct. So there looks to be a good case for pursuing a test case for Unfair Dismissal to an industrial tribunal.
