GO day Bishop Auckland

UKIP Bishop Auckland helped with the Grassroots Out campaign by showing the campaign material in Bishop Auckland on the Market Square. The National organisers could not have chosen a bleaker day for the National Action day if they had tried, and our dedicated band of enthusiasts for the "OUT" campaign braved hail, sleet and snow with the odd sunshine break to try and get the GO message out to the public. The printed Tee Shirts provided for the event were definitely not the order of the day and the pull up banner would have been ideal for a little windsurfing across the square. However, we are sure to repeat the event on a warmer day nearer the big day of the referendum. We can only hope that June 23rd is just as bleak a day because the people who approached us at the event would all have fought through hell and high water to get to the polling station. One stand visitor said he hasn't voted for 40 years but would be up bright and early on referendum day waiting for the polling station to open to cast his vote for OUT.

This was also the day that UKIP Bishop Auckland used the UKIP Gazebo provided by our Regional Organiser Gordon Parkin (Stockton Branch) for the first time, and it was generally agreed that the small hire fee was excellent value. The Gazebo provided necessary shelter for the vast range of UKIP literature and videos which were being shown inside, and of course provided a refuge from the storm for our activists and the odd member of public brave enough to venture out. The UKIP numbers were swelled on the day by helpers from Sedgefield and Middlesbrough branches and their help was truly appreciated.

By chance on the day there was another GO campaign taking place on the Market Square as GO North East the bus company were promoting their new hi tech bus so we couldn't resist taking a snapshop of their coffee wagon and doing a little photoshopping to link the North East with the" Grassroots Out" campaign at the risk of getting scolded by HO.
